Since its foundation in 1911, the zoo Hellabrunn in Munich is a so-called geo-zoo. Animals live there in big natural parks which are adapted to their geographic origin. Visitors can start a world trip to different continents and meet fascinating animal species.
The location of the zoo is also unique. In the conservation area of the Isarauen a unique nature paradise was created where animals can develop appropriately to their species. Today, due to its generous surface Hellabrunn is the greatest zoological organization of Germany. Animals have the needed room to run around and find natural living space between brooks and different inshore waters. The combination of the water network with extensive sceneries also offers advantages for the zoo visitors. They can experience the animals very closely and watch their natural behavior. In Hellabrunn live more than 17,000 animals and more than 700 species.
Visitors can also enjoy culinary delights. There is a self-service restaurant with a typically Bavarian beer garden. In summer the beer garden is a popular meeting place for all zoo visitors. Next to the beer garden is a big adventure playground. The menu offers unusual and traditional dishes for children and adults. Lovers of Italian food prefer the park pizzeria. From here one has a wonderful look at the flamingo colony. At the Isar entrance a small bistro is located to give visitors the possibility to eat a snack. Besides, visitors can buy refreshments in several kiosks or enjoy a little something in the snack bars. An insider tip is the Crêpes-Standl directly next to the elephants.
Zoo Hellabrunn offers a special service for handicapped people. In all ticket offices wheel chairs are ready to be borrowed. On the park area there is a sufficient offer for toilets suitable for handicapped. Blind people, visually impaired and children with handicap can lend special info material in the ticket office.
