Electronica is one of the worldwide greatest and most important trade fairs of the electronic industry. It is regarded as a leading fair for components, systems and applications of the electronic industry. The topics of the exhibition are sensorics, semiconductors, passive construction elements and electronics design. Other main topics are Embedded systems, displays, system components as well as the electrical mechanics and the system peripherals. electronica was founded in 1964 and since then it is an institution in the fair calendar of the city of Munich. Since 1975 electronica takes place every two years alternately with “productronica”, namely in each even year in November. In 2012 electronica occupies the exhibition area in Munich from November 13th to 16th. Then on the area of the New Munich Trade Fair Center electronica takes a gross exhibition space of about 142,500 square meters. About 2,600 exhibitors from more than 46 countries meet in the fair days with more than 72,000 visitors. The audience of the electronica is renowned for its high professionalism. Particularly the executives and developers as well as employees from distribution, purchasing, design and research are business visitors whose share is at about 98 percent in electronica. 59 percent of the exhibitors and about 47 percent of the visitors come from abroad. Beside the information about new products and services the business visitors use the fair days also for own networking, because electronica is regarded as the meeting point for decision-makers, developers and buyers. In no other fair place visitors can find such a big amount of Big Players.
Nevertheless, the electronica in Munich is far more than just a show for product innovations. Conferences, forums and other events serve also as platforms for technical exchange and discussions.
The electronica in Munich is worldwide integrated into a network of other electronic trade fairs. Beside the sister fair “productronica” which also takes place in Munich, there are also the “electronicAsia” in Hong Kong, the „electronic & Productronica“ in China’s Shanghai, the “electronicAmericas” in Sao Paulo and “electronic India” in Bangalore.
